The Product

An advertisement for a MYSTERY PRODUCT that promises to free customers from any dead-end life/job they may be stuck in as well as permanently improve their emotional state. Another claim is repeatedly made referring to the exclusivity of such features.

Indecision
2008, 2'58"
|
A commentary on a person being overwhelmed by the requirement on himself to choose a variety of frozen dairy dessert for another. He experiences total lockup towards the end as the staff and those behind him begin to get impatient.
Featuring a guitar part that I've been wanting to use forever. |

Tweak
2008, 2'19"
|
Short, but a veritable barrage of sliced vocals and broken recordings of various instruments I found under my desk.
I'd usually analyse the lyrics here but in this song that would be difficult. Suffice to say that the narrator has a useful and practical methodology to be used in the process of bringing things closer and closer to perfection. |

As If You Didn't Know
2008, 4'00"
|
This character appears to be somewhat agitated by the misinformation or missing information supplied or not supplied to him by some kind of formal informant because it led him to a course of action that led to some kind of disaster that led to the extreme degradation and/or loss of the lives of many.
I have a violin that I bought on ebay. I'm not very good at playing it but with the aid of TECHNOLOGY I can pretend that I am. |

Connecting Me With Me
2008, 2'16"
|
The lead (and sole) character in this song is somewhat perplexed by the inexplicable connection between his perception and his sentience. This fundamental confusion seems to have caused a unique series of experiences for him. Notably, when it was brought to his attention in his early school days that the act of respiration was a process he could and must control, he had fled, believing that his tutors were maliciously mis-educating him. Other events include a sudden existentialist moment at a zoo concerning both what his activities should be when he is there and the disappointment in the undisplayability of abstract objects as well as a hallucinatory episode in which his digital appendages attempt to coerce him into such things as a small-scale aquatic massacre.
Features include a dual kazoo solo and an almost uninterpretable chorus caused by vocal overlap and distortion as well as confusing lyrics. |

Stranger Danger
2007, 3'13"
|
A tale of child abduction and the excitement that that usually entails. A child is taken from the street on which their abode is located ostensibly so the abductor can provide confectionery for the delectation of said child. It rapidly becomes apparent, however, that the consumables will not be supplied and that there is a highly insignificant probability that the minor will be capable of escape.
Features a 14-bar chorus, an entirely non-cadencial finale and an unhealthy focus on the lack of the promised luxury comestibles rather than the arguably more significant physical abuse. |

Puff, The Magic Dragon
2007, 2'15"
|
A retelling of the classic tale of childhood and innocence lost to the clutches of time.
I wrote my own little bit that is overlaid over the second verse. I hope you don't mind. Until I looked up the lyrics to do this I had no idea that this song was so sad. |

Miles Away From Home
2007, 4'00"
|
A2 Music Technology Coursework.
Generic trance song about some people who, for one reason or another, find themselves a considerable distance from their original place of residence and consider not only the reasoning behind their original decision to travel as far as they did but also the manner in which they had perceived themselves at the time. Featuring the vocal talent of Anne Dawson. |

I Tripped Over
2007, 2'29"
|
Described by autocritic(s) as "a musical attempt to dismiss coherence", this track - created as part of The Governing Body - follows the antics of a narrator who is either mentally damaged or who lives in a world in which religious gerbils are permitted to sail vessels that fail to obey the laws of Euclidian geometry.
This song uses the chord pattern produced if the one from G6 is played upside-down on a keyboard. |

G6
2007, 2'15"
|
A track created by The Governing Body (of which I am a member), this track documents the bittersweet tale of a woman struck down by a truck doing what she did best - assisting youth currently in the education system in their (usually successful) attempts to traverse roads while avoiding the vehicles for which the roads were designed.
Features a solo by Oliver Pont in which a riff from a popular song about substances or objects with a high temperature is referenced repeatedly. |

AS Music Coursework.
A Romantic Miniature written and performed for my AS Music qualification. The chorus melody in this piece was eventually my inspiration for Miles Away From Home in many ways including the minor 6th jump and the descending bassline. |

The List
2005 - 2007, 15'46"
|
Six tracks created between 2005 and 2007. They are together a narrative concerning a generic dictatorship with a threatening but vague justice system in which a group of unknown volume gathers in order to reduce and ultimately replace the council or president that currently governs them in a way they feel is somewhat disagreeable. This group amasses a large military force and it becomes apparent to the powers that be that their citizens do in fact face a not insubstantial chance of forcing the leaders to relinquish their position.
Listen all the way through to uncover the SHOCKING TWIST. |
